Lynne Shivers Leadership Award

About the Award

Each year, UEP honors an industry professional with the Lynne Shivers Leadership Award. This award is named in honor of Lynne Shivers and recognizes esteemed UEP members, like Lynne, who have served in a leadership capacity and made significant contributions to the organization’s leadership and growth, and growth of the meetings industry.  It is a tradition that a UEP member receives this award at the Annual Education Conference. 

About Lynne Shivers

 

Lynne’s career at the University spans nearly thirty years. She has held progressively responsible positions that had event planning at its core. She was a member of the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors-International (ACCED-I) and served on its national benchmark committee before joining UEP in the mid-1990’s.  Lynne served as president of UEP from 2008-2009. As president, Lynne created UEP’s slogan and logo, “GoMeet!” Under her administration, attendance increased at the monthly meetings and she initiated a drive to bring non-perishable items to the Holiday Party for families in SOS. Additionally, for more than 15 years Lynne has taught classes on event planning in the Human Resource Departments at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University.

 

Lynne retired from U-M in 2012 to start her own business, PEACEful Events Planning Services. She has authored a book, God Is in the Details: PEACEful Event Planning for Churches and Religious Groups. Lynne is a founding member of the new UEP and served as the organization’s first president.
